I wrote this a few months ago, sent it in an email to myself, and forgot to post it to my blog. I came across it today and since I’ve had additional related experiences of late I thought I would add to it and post it, so here you go…
The Original Post, (Updates in Blue)
I was bumpin around my up-line’s Facebook Group page today and came across a post from Phil Squires about the Empower Network Facebook Slap so I thought I’d let you know about a few things I’ve encountered. For whatever reason (At the time I wrote this I didn’t know why…) if you try to advertise Empower Network on Facebook or create a link to your Empower Network blog (in any way) you get a message stating Facebook doesn’t like your links. (All the big social media and advertising sites don’t like advertising for MLM businesses, I’ll explain why below.) Funny, the first thing I tried when I joined Empower Network was to put an ad on Facebook, because I’m familiar with advertising there, and Facebook gave me a big ol’ slap to the back of the head. Though I haven’t tried it, Phil recommends the IBO ToolBox, looks like a good all-in-one type of solution. (This comes at a reasonable fee for their marketing system, at the moment many people like myself are just using Social Media Bar it’s free and all it does is allow you to post links to your Empower Network blog on social media sites like Facebook, YouTube, Google+ etc. It does some sort of cloaking/redirecting type of thing.) One thing I noticed about people who are in Empower Netwok and utilizing their Facebook profile is they all have a Personal Blog of their own and their Empower Network blog is a category or page link in their Personal Blog. So a link to your Personal Blog posts from Facebook, is accepted and will get people interested in you or what you do and they’ll check out your Empower Network blog thru your Personal Blog pages and posts. I have a Personal Blog in the works and will be doing the same, I’ll announce it here once I get it up and running, still deciding on a URL name. (It’s up and running now! Check it out at PunkTheSystem.com).
After learning Facebook wouldn’t let me run Ads or put links on my profile I tried other avenues that I was familiar with like Craigslist, I wrote up an Ad hit post and was DENIED. So I hit up my Google Adwords account put together an ad and put a link to one of my Empower Network landing pages, DENIED. I changed the link to go to my Empower Network Blog, DENIED. I tried cloaking the URL, DENIED! So I decided I’d give up going that route and focus on creating my Personal Blog and I would drive traffic there once it was all set up. Well, I made the mistake of leaving my ads set to ON in my Adwords account, they had been denied and weren’t running so I didn’t think anything of it. Well apparently the all mighty Google did think something of it, when I went back into my account a few months later there it was The Big Red Band Of Death across the top, saying my account had been SUSPENDED. Oh No! When I tried to contact Google Support all I got was an automated recording saying my account was suspended and I should contact Google Support. Uh Oh, it was the old support system run around trick. I sent them an email, same thing, an automated run around response. I was screwed, it clearly said, my account, any accounts associated with it, and any new account I create, has been suspended for violating Googles “Terms”. I didn’t know what to do… So, I’m looking at my Adwords account unable to use it, thinking about the fact that my Adsense account is probably shutdown too, I won’t be able to use Youtube or Google+… Well weeks went by, all the Ads in my account had been turned off for a while now so I decided to just delete them all and then I delete the campaigns I had labeled as Empower Network, this cleaned my account of all my ads, I even went to the History page and tried to delete that… I logged out of my account for the last time and was totally down in the dumps about it, I even went to my upline’s Facebook Group page and posted about it to see if anyone had any advice for me or if anyone had the same problem. Suddenly about 2 hours after I cleaned out my Adwords account an email comes in from Google saying “Your Adwords Account is now active…” Woohoo! Man I thought it was done for.
So why is it that Google, Youtube, Craigslist, Facebook, and all the big social media advertising venues don’t like MLM businesses?
Well, it’s simple actually, and makes total sense. If they allowed an MLM business to advertise through one of their channels, the person advertising, would most likely have some form of success. Then, everyone and their mom would start advertising MLM businesses through those channels, flooding the advertising channel and any channel similar to it, causing all kinds of problems for the people who are searching the web, the people using the websites, or the people trying to advertise something else through those same channels. It wouldn’t be fair to anyone but the advertiser. So to keep the advertising channels balanced and fair, to give the searchers quality search results, and to give users a quality website experience, they put an end to MLM advertising on their sites. Simple and Logical. Now why couldn’t I realize that before I went thru all that trouble? Well it’s just part of the business, lucky for you, you read this article and didn’t run into any of these problems right?
